Open pastures and stone walls at Dancing Ewe Farm on the New York–Vermont border

A Place to Slow Down, Unplug, and Stay Awhile

Our vision for the future of Dancing Ewe Farm — intimate, thoughtfully crafted countryside stays surrounded by open fields and mountain views.

The Conversation That Started It All

One of the conversations that has surrounded Dancing Ewe Farm for years has been simple: once guests arrive, they rarely want to leave.

The challenge has always been lodging. While the farm sits in an extraordinarily beautiful and peaceful corner of upstate New York on the border of Vermont, the surrounding area remains intentionally rural and undeveloped. That charm is part of what makes the region so special — but it also means accommodations nearby are limited.

Over the years, we began imagining a different possibility for the property: a small collection of thoughtfully designed countryside stays that would allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the experience of the farm and surrounding landscape.

Our long-term vision is not large-scale development or commercial resort culture. Quite the opposite.

THE VISION

Cabins

We envision a handful of beautifully crafted one- and two-bedroom cabins tucked quietly into the fields where the sheep once grazed — intentionally positioned to preserve the sweeping views, open skies, and tranquility that define the property.

Designed with natural materials, wraparound porches, warm interiors, and a refined yet understated aesthetic, these spaces would feel deeply connected to the land while still offering the comfort and quality of a luxury retreat.

The Goal

The goal is simple: create places where people can slow down, unplug, cook a simple meal, sit outside with a glass of wine, listen to the river, and reconnect with nature in a meaningful way.

The Mettawee River & Setting

Bordering the property is the Mettawee River, a well-known blue-ribbon trout stream treasured by the fly-fishing community and nature lovers alike. Combined with the surrounding farmland, forests, and mountain views, the setting offers a rare kind of quiet that has become increasingly difficult to find.

While this vision remains part of the farm’s future plans, it reflects the direction Dancing Ewe Farm continues to evolve toward — intimate hospitality, authentic rural experiences, and thoughtfully curated spaces designed for rest, gathering, and connection.
